Why a detox is a non-negotiable for a healthy life?
The concept of detox is not one that is new, but it is a popular term in the field of skincare and wellness. Just as the name suggests, it involves flushing out toxins from the body. Although the body is capable of self-renewal and self-detox, there are certain commonly found ingredients that help to speed up the process.
1. Turmeric
Turmeric is one of the highest regarded spices out of the Indian spice box. Aside from being one of the best nutritional supplements, turmeric has antioxidant, antibacterial, antiviral and antifungal properties. Recent studies have also shown that the ingredient has anti-carcinogenic properties, along with being rich in vitamins.
The spice can be used to soothe skin, and can be used to treat acne, as well as acne scars.
2. Sea Salt
If you feel like your body is in need of a detox, because of sudden flares of acne, weight gain, digestive problems, aches and fatigue, a sea salt detox may be the exact thing that you need. Sea salt being rich in magnesium, sulphate, calcium sulphate and potassium chloride, it works by cleaning your colon of any toxins or other by-products present in the system.
As the salt cleanses the system, it leaves behind a rich deposit of minerals which aid in further detoxification of the body.
3. Coffee
Coffee being an ingredient that is rich in antioxidants helps with the regeneration of newer cells, but more importantly the nutrients present in coffee protects the liver against alcohol induced cirrhosis, thus helping the body with the process of detox.
Coffee also helps to cleanse the stomach due to its diuretic nature. The more coffee you consume, the more toxins and bacteria that are flushed out, thus keeping the gut healthy.
4. Green Tea
Although green tea by itself is not an ingredient that can detox the body, it does contain natural polyphenols that assists the body's natural process of detoxification. Green tea provides the liver with antioxidants that it uses to detox the entire body. Green tea consumed regularly also helps to improve the immunity system and helps to promote overall health and energy levels.
5. Clay
For ages, clay has been used as a detox agent, to treat diseases and to maintain overall health. Clay, being an antibacterial agent, allows for viruses to die off and be carried through the body's natural detoxification pathways. Additionally, clay has the power to bond with heavy metals that get left behind in the body. Just as bacteria are flushed out of the body, heavy metals too are removed, while the minerals that are present in clay help in healing the body.
A detox will not only help to clear the body of toxins, but can also help to heal your gut, liver, skin and stomach, all from within. This results in you feeling better, sleeping better, curbing cravings and most importantly, allowing your body to reboot for its natural detox processes to take place.
It's a frequent assumption that detox diets need to be extreme, expensive, or involve only green juice, but this is not always the case. In reality, they can just be a straightforward, healthy, whole-foods-based diet.
